June 23, 2015- (BOSTON, MA) – Shooting Touch, a global basketball NPO headquartered in Norwood, MA is announcing today the creation of the Jonathan DosSantos Scholarship Fund in memoriam of Jonathan Dos Santos who was tragically shot on the streets of Dorchester this month.
Jonathan, 16 years of age, was a member of the Boston Tigers AAU program and a passionate basketball player. When Jonathan recently refused to cave to pressure and join a gang and instead decide to pursue his basketball career, he was murdered by two gang members execution style while riding his bike home one afternoon. In order to honor Jonathan’s love of basketball and to ensure that more urban youth in Boston receive the opportunity to have access to basketball sport programming, Shooting Touch will provide (15) summer scholarships to their 8th Annual Summer Kids Camp with legendary Hall of Fame Coach Bob Hurley. The scholarships will be available to 2nd-9th female and male youth from Boston urban communities and enable them to attend the 4-day camp at Roxbury Latin in West Roxbury from 9am – 3pm July 13th – 16th at no cost.
In order to apply for the scholarship, all applicants must contact Jose Morton, Jonathan’s basketball coach and indicate in a hand written the reason why they want to come to this camp and what they hope to learn. All letters will be scanned and sent to firstname.lastname@example.org with “JDS Fund ” in the subject line of the email. Shooting Touch hopes that with creation of more opportunity for basketball programming throughout Boston, urban youth will be more educated and inspired to stay on a positive life trajectory and pursue their athletic dreams. Shooting Touch hopes that the DosSantos family will find solace in the possibility that Jonathan is smiling down knowing that his name is allowing for other young men and women to love the game as much as he did.
